The Building
The Homestead Skeleton is a ex-government weatherboard home from Griffith (in Canberra) built between 1930-1940. It was moved in two halves to its present site. The verandahs and Brindabella deck were added to the building and a new commercial kitchen was built. The main area was formerly the kitchen, lounge room, laundry and wood store. Previously the Café was run by the Clark family who own the adjacent Equestrian Centre.
The Owner Chef
I purchased the Café at the start of 2010 after being the chef for the previous 10 months. After completing my apprenticeship and spending 5 years working at the Hyatt Hotel in Canberra I accepted an offer of a position at The Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai. After 18 months I moved to Seoul to be the chef de cuisine of the Vine Restaurant & Bar at the Hotel Lotte, a 1500 room establishment. I was then approached to go and open a 10 suite boutique hotel in Istanbul Turkey. Hotel Les Ottomans was voted 10th best hotel in the world and I was voted 6th best chef in Turkey. We catered for the world's rich and famous, the likes of Paris Hilton, Kylie Minogue, George Clooney, Kevin Costner, Bruce Willis and members of Turkish society.
I consider all of my experience and overseas travel has led me to The Homestead Café and to making your experience here a memorable one.
